This project started with no plan. I knew I wanted to mosaic a sea horse but I had no further plan of action. I worked indirectly so that I could transfer my piece later. I placed the mosaic tiles onto mesh, making it easily transferrable.
The female sea horse came along as an afterthought. I put lipstick and false eyelashes on her to make her more beautiful than the male. As in nature, males can often be more attractive than the female.
I used a traditional frieze design for the border out of 1cmx1cm tiles
The background is coloured glass. I imported 120x120 sheets from China. Using a large tile cutter I cut the sheets down to a manageable size then used a smaller tile cutter. In order to make the sea and seaweed effect I used a tile nibbler. I wanted to experiment with a different form of glass, so not tesserae, more venetian glass effect.
